This course introduces scenario developers and content developers to the basics of VBS3 scripting. This course caters to those unfamiliar with scripting concepts and builds upon lessons learned in the Administration Course. This course will instruct participants in the following topics: scripting fundamentals, interpreting scripts, learning scripts by topic, and dialogs and user interfaces. The VBS3 Scripting Language is easy to understand and master, allowing a user flexibility to add customized content and functionality to a scenario that extends beyond the capabilities of the Offline Mission Editor and Real Time Editor. Whether creating exclusively programmed scenarios or designing sequences of activities and actions based on real events, this course will equip participants with the keys to access and control the powerful VBS3 engine. Students will learn the very basics of developing scripts: variables, script commands, function calling, and more. Using available resources, students will explore different scripting commands, how they work, and how they have are used in common scripts. We’ll ensure learning is relevant to students that want to continue scripting beyond the course. Students develop and explore the important scripts commonly used in training environments today.

  •

  • COURSE GOALS
This course focuses on empowering scenario designers and content developers of VBS3 by examining how scripts work, how others use scripts to enhance scenarios or build new content, and allowing them to explore topics that will become essential to them following its completion. At the completion of the course, participants will be well-versed in managing VBS3 and able to develop complex scenarios that are both fast and efficiently designed.

  •

  • PRE-REQUISITES
It’s highly recommended to take the introductory course to VBS3, the Administrator Course, and students will be expected to have a basic familiarity with VBS3 and scenario development. Familiarity with Windows Operating System (e.g., folder structure, file manipulation, common keyboard shortcuts) is extremely helpful.

  •

  • TO THE EMPLOYER
Your employee will undergo formal training with highly skilled instructors. Your skilled VBS3 technicians will rejoin your team with knowledge of up-to-date scripting practices used by Bohemia Interactive Simulations designers and our world-wide customers. Students will be able to start answering the “How do I…” and “Can VBS3 do…” questions commonly asked before and during scenario and content development. Your employee will be presented with a Course Competency Certificate.

RI101 - Rigging & Import Course

  • COURSE OVERVIEW
The Rigging and Import Course is specifically aimed at model development within the VBS3 developer tool suite, provided with the purchase of a VBS3 licence. And in particular to Bohemia Interactive simulation's proprietary modelling software “Oxygen2.” You may already be an experienced 3D artist in Maya, 3DSmax, Modo or any number of other modelling packages, but to import your model into VBS3 requires an understanding of the proprietary tools, workflow and techniques required to set up and rig a model for use in VBS3. Along with a collection of other supporting programs found within the tool suite, Oxygen 2 is the primary program used to make models functional for VBS3. The model import course provides students with the opportunity to learn from experienced BISim 3D artists/ instructors, and gives students a strong foundation in the required techniques and tools used for 3D model development for VBS3.

  •

  • COURSE GOALS
Students who complete the course find themselves with the ability to import, rig and configure 3D models for VBS3, as well as gaining an appreciation of the limitations associated with model development for game engines in general. This new ability can be used to create any number of model assets, such as sensitive weapon systems, vehicles or buildings, which can be used in VBS3 for training, demonstrative or analytical purposes, or to complement custom built terrains, used for the same purposes.

  •

  • PRE-REQUISITES
There are no formal prerequisites, but previous experience with 3D model development is desirable. Students with minimal experience and skills will still learn how to import, set up and rig models, but may find the training material difficult due to the assumption of basic 3D modelling skills. We recommend some form of training on the concepts and principles of 3D modelling, prior to attending this course. Web-based tutorials or formal “short courses” will empower the student with the skills required.

  •

  • TO THE EMPLOYER
Your employee with undergo formal training with highly skilled instructors, and will rejoin your team with a sound and up-to-date understanding of VBS3 model importing and construction principles. Due to the large amount of information delivered during this course, it is important that your employee is correctly prepared. We recommend placing inexperienced personnel through a short, commercial 3D modelling course to allow the employee to learn at least the basic 3d modelling skills required to complete the course. The training delivered to the employee will be drawn from the latest material and skill sets relevant to the current VBS3 engine and developer tools. An employee with the VBS3 Model Import Certification will be a great asset to your organization. The skill sets attained by your employee will allow your organization to design a variety of VBS3 models. Most employers report highly of this course due to the flexibility it offers simulation departments employing VBS3.
