BISim’s VBS3 software supports three Australian Defence projects

Source : Military Simulation & Training Magazine

Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim), a developer of military simulation and training software, will provide its VBS3 platform to support three Australian Defence Force (ADF) projects including the L200-2 BMS (Battle Management System), Land 400 Phase 2 (Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle), and the Weapon Training Simulation System. The ADF will use the new equipment and technologies to train, support and protect its troops, and increase the readiness of its service members.

VBS3 is a multiplayer, virtual training environment and development platform for modeling and simulation. It combines a content library, scenario development tools, and after-action review capabilities into a high-fidelity application. It allows for interoperability with external HLA/DIS networks and host computers that use the CIGI protocol, a DIS-enabled voice communications system and a mission-planning tool for adding military markings to scenarios.

Land L200-2 BMS

BISim will provide engineering and support services to Elbit Systems of Australia for the integration of its VBS3 software that will support the training and exercising of Elbit’s BMS as part of Land 200-2. VBS3 will enable training of complex warfighting with Elbit’s BMS using its allied- and opposition-force capabilities.

The Australian Army, Special Forces and Royal Australian Air Force departments that are equipped with BMS will be able to practice tactics, techniques and procedures through the integrated BMS simulation environment that will give users a first-person view of a battle-space and BMS situational awareness while receiving and giving information and orders through the BMS.

Land 400 Phase 2

Project Land 400 is the Australian Army’s largest project to modernize its armored reconnaissance vehicle. The Army expects to use BISim’s software in the training system for Land 400 to provide greater simulation support for individual and collective training.

Weapon Training Simulation System

The latest version of VBS3 will be included in ADF’s Weapon Training Simulation System (WTSS) that is supplied by Meggitt Training Systems Australia. The WTSS is used for training at 18 ADF locations around the country. The upgrade will, the companies say, create greater support for training complex warfighting and offer more options for collective training. VBS3 will generate the complex scenarios that can be displayed on up to three screens in a WTSS and support the full range of weapons.
